This is a fun and quick recipe I made for our neighbor kids last week. After seeing it on Kristan's blog, and knowing I had a block of candy melt in my pantry, I set out to make it right away. I used Kristan's concept, but decided to leave out the cherry flavoring, since I don't like cherry candy, and I didn't have cherry candy flavoring anyway. So, I just used the dark chocolate M&M's in Valentine's Day colors.

The blocks of candy melts actually come with a microwave safe container to melt your chocolate in. So, this was super easy to clean up. Just melt in the microwave, pour into the lined pan, then toss the disposable container. Easy peasy!

Ingredients

1 package chocolate candy coating/melts
1 package white candy coating/melts
pink food coloring (that does not contain water)
1 package M&M's
Assorted heart sprinkles

Instructions

Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Melt the chocolate candy melts in the microwave according to the package directions. Pour onto the lined baking sheet and evenly spread into a very thin layer with a spatula. Chill in the fridge until hardened.
Melt the white candy coating in the microwave according to the package directions, then use the pink food coloring to tint it the desired color. Evenly spread on top of the layer of chocolate and sprinkle the M&M's and heart sprinkles on top. Press lightly to adhere. Chill in the fridge until set, then remove from the parchment paper and break into pieces.

Hi Nikki, I love this idea! I just finished making this and while I was breaking it apart most of the mms and hearts fell off I pressed them into the chocolate like you said. Any suggestions for keeping the candy on top next time? I will be making this again! So easy and cute!!! Thanks!

I am not really sure what melts are but can I just use chocolate chips instead???

  Candy melts are available in the baking aisle or cake decorating aisle of most grocery stores. They harden better than chocolate chips for the purpose of bark. 🙂

Where do you buy your candy melts? Does the chocolate taste as good as chocolate chips?

  I buy the Wilton brand, usually found at any Walmart in the Wilton aisle...(typically located near the gift bags and cards). And, in my opinion, I don't think candy melts taste as good as chocolate chips, but they are fine used occasionally. 🙂

  Hi Heather, Use oil-based food coloring instead of water-based. I use Americolor gel. 🙂
