Login with additional authentication

Leiden University currently uses two types of additional authentication (MFA). One is used for Office 365 services (such as Word, OneDrive and Teams), for which you use your university Microsoft account. The other is for applications using Single Sign On via ULCN.
This information is about additional authentications for applications that use Single Sign On via ULCN.

Additional authentication enhances information security. More and more university systems are therefore switching to additional authentication, also known as multi-factor authentication (MFA). The use of MFA means that several steps are required to log in to applications of Leiden University. In addition to your username and password, you will be asked to use an additional method to establish your identity. Leiden University offers various methods as an additional factor.

Setup additional authentication

Have you registered your private e-mail address in Account Services? Then MFA through e-mail will be immediately available as an additional factor and visible in the MFA settings portal. Please check which e-mail address is set here. If this is not the correct address, you can change it in Account Services.

In the settings portal you can also set an app as an additional factor. We recommend that you use the "NetIQ Advanced Authentication App", but it is also possible to choose another authenticator app (for example Microsoft or Google).

Forgotten your password? Want to change your password, or your password has expired? In most cases you can reset your password yourself via Account Services. If you are not able to access Account Services, please contact the ISSC Helpdesk.

Forgotten your password?

You can reset your passwordvia Account Services if you have forgotten it. However, this is only possible if you have used the correct settingsfor your account:

  • You have registered a non-university email address or mobile telephone number
  • You have set up an authenticator app

If you have complied with all of these points, you can nowreset your passwordwithout the intervention of a helpdesk.

New password via a helpdesk

If you are unable to use Account Services, you can ask for a new password via this form or you can contact the ISSC Helpdesk. You will receive a temporary password by post, smsor – with proof of identify – in person at the desk. This password has to be reset directly. It is always quicker to reset your password yourselfvia Account Services.

Every member of staff at Leiden University is given a ULCN account. You can use this ULCN account to log in to your computer, the wifi network and various other IT systems.

Applying for an account

When you start work at the university, you will automatically receive an email or letter with your ULCN log-in details. You do not need to apply for an account yourself. You will receive your account details at the correspondence address or the (non-university) email address that you have given to the staff administration department.

After receiving the letter or email, you cannot immediately use your account. Depending on the letter that you receive, you first have to activate your account or change your password. You also need to set your account in the right way so that you can manage your account in future without the intervention of the ISSC Helpdesk.

Retaining your account if you leave the university

You can make use of your account for 90 days before starting employment up to 60 days after ending your appointment. If you wish to use your account for longer (for example after your pension date), please contact the PSSC Service Point.
