How to Make Savory Pork Shoulder in a Slow Cooker

Aunt Lou here.

We love the generic teriyaki pineapple marinade from our local grocery store (it is a Ruler Foods store if anyone has one near them). We have used it on many things with great results. So this weekend when Michael started using his culinary imagination, he decided to use our favorite marinade in this simple recipe.

The remainder of the ingredients in this Savory Crock Pot Pork Shoulder recipe make this a true dump and go recipe. This makes it a great recipe to throw together in the morning! It is also a long cooking recipe, so that makes it great for those days when you need a longer cooking time.

This recipe uses a pork shoulder, so they are generally larger pieces of meat. So, you will have many servings with this recipe. That makes it great if you have a large family or if you are making a meal for a large group. However, if you don’t have a large family or group to feed, the leftovers are just as delicious as the first night. That will make it a great way to stretch your grocery dollars to feed your family through the week. You can put it on bread for a sandwich for lunch and then pair it up with some yummy veggies to use it for supper that night!

When purchasing your pork shoulder, keep in mind the size of slow cooker you have. These are larger pieces of meat. You need to make sure that you can fit it inside your crock pot and be able to put the lid on it securely.

The meat is soooo tener sooo juicy If your meat is not falling apart, “you DID something wrong”.
If it’s to dry? You DID something wrong.
If you are Leary about garlic salt? You probably didn’t try making the recipe.

Sorry for any grammar errors English is not my first language. But I feel very strongly about this recipe.

If it’s too sweet? You should have put more soy sauce.

I am sooo glad I tried this recipe it’s going on my family tradition cook book

Between the pineapple teriyaki and the apple juice, there’s too much sugar and the effect is sweet sugared meat. The teriyaki adds minimal acid and garlic salt is always a red flag.

I made this last night and was very disappointed. The flavor was great but it was very tough. I used a 4 lb pork shoulder with no bone so I used slightly less liquid than called for by the recipe. Is the liquid mixture supposed to totally cover the meat during the cook time?

I’m so sorry to hear that it was tough Laura. It sounds like your slow cooker cooks a little cooler than mine and your roast needed to cook a little longer. Next time, try cooking it longer and checking it as you go.

      Hi Cookster!

We used a bone-in pork shoulder. The meat fell off the bone! It is so good! I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
