How to Make Sirloin Steak in the Oven

Here’s everything you need to know in order to cook a perfectly juicy sirloin steak in your oven:

  • Sit at room temperature. Remove the steak from the fridge 30 minutes prior to cooking and allow it to sit at room temperature. Do not ever try to cook a steak that’s still partially frozen.
  • Preheat the oven. Preheat your oven to 400℉.
  • Season generously. Season the steak with salt and black pepper.
  • Prepare the frying pan. Place a cast iron or heavy-based frying pan over a high heat and add 1-2 tablespoons of either grapeseed or avocado oil.
  • Preheat the pan. Preheat the frying pan over medium high heat for 3 minutes.
  • Fry. Add the steak to the frying pan and cook for 2 ½ minutes (or until browned on the underside). This varies slightly depending on your pan and thickness of the steak.
  • Flip the steak.
  • Add the remaining ingredients. Add the knob of butter, garlic cloves, thyme sprigs, and rosemary sprigs.
  • Baste. Baste the steak with the butter and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  • Bake. Transfer the pan to the preheated oven and bake the steak according to your desired level of how you prefer your steak done; 2 minutes for rare, 3 minutes for medium rare, 4 minutes for medium, 5 minutes for medium well, and 6 minutes for medium well done.
  • Rest. Remove the steak from the oven and transfer it to a plate. Allow it to rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Best Way to Store Sirloin Steak Leftovers

Before storing any leftover sirloin steak that you have on hand, you’re going to want to make sure you allow the meat to cool off completely.

With that done, you can then wrap each individual piece of steak in plastic wrap before sealing it inside of an airtight container or heavy duty Ziploc bag.

You can keep your steak stored in the fridge like this (make sure to leave it on the bottom shelf in order to prevent any juices from potentially leaking and cross contaminating other foods) for up to 3-4 days.

How to Reheat Sirloin Steak

The secret to reheating sirloin steak is to be extra careful that you don’t accidentally overcook it.

With that in mind, we recommend using a wire rack and a rimmed baking sheet to briefly reheat the steak in the oven at a low temperature (around 250℉) before then searing both sides in a frying pan with about ½ inch of butter or keto approved cooking oil.
