Overview

Agne (Fire) Yoga Poses: Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura Chakra) Yoga Sequence For Balancing The Fire Element

The fire element related to the Manipura Chakra (Solar Plexus) focuses on how to activate our inner fire and to experience success in the outer world. The basic nature of the manipura chakra which is related to the fire element includes heat, strength, power, transformation and digestion. When the fire element dominates or is imbalanced, we become insensitive, arrogant, angry, overconfident and sometimes, it even creates conflicts in our relationships. On the other hand, if the fire element is low, it causes depression, low self-esteem, under-confidence, irritability and distances one from others. However, when there is balance in the lower two chakras - Root Chakra (Muladhara) and Sacral Chakra (Swadhistana) - it is easy to control the agni (fire element) related to the Manipura Chakra. One also tends to develop a sense of humility and builds cordial relationships.

A structured yoga routine can help students to boost confidence level and become more courageous. Also, core awakening yoga poses can help stimulate the fire element and develop a balanced personality. The given yoga sequence includes the practice of yoga poses for the core, abdominal muscles, arm balancing and twists to stimulate the fire element, and they deepen the energy within. Although most of the poses in the sequence are beginner and intermediate level, the inclusion of a few advanced poses is to boost the will power and confidence of the students. However, the idea is to just attempt these poses and not master them.

Throughout the practice of this yoga sequence, teachers should encourage their students to keep their breathing pattern stable and smooth in order to maintain the agni (fire) under control. With fast and unstable breathing, the stimulated energy or the fire gets wasted, and leads to a drained body, distracted mind and thought process. Hence, the key to this sequence is to keep the energy and fire element strong, while being low, humble and submissive.
